Bows & staffs: choose your next upgrade
Compare Pixlaria’s bows and magic staffs, including skill requirements, damage, shop prices and crafting materials.
Buy it or make it
The smith's shop sells these weapons. You can also craft them at a sawbench with the materials below. Crafting requires Carpentry at the same level as the weapon's listed requirement; equipping it requires Archery for bows or Magic for staffs.
Each weapon uses both hands, so you give up a shield while it is equipped. Compare the actual statistics in the bag's equipment description before buying. A finished weapon costs more to buy than it returns when sold.
Bows for an advancing paladin
The starting shortbow has 8 ranged attack. These five upgrades provide stronger attacks as you train Archery. Your skill, arrow and target's defence also affect the damage dealt.
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways for more details.
| Weapon | Required skill | Power | Buy | Crafting materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oakcurve bow | Archery 10 | 12 ranged attack | 400 GC | 12 × Oak logs 2 × Iron bar |
| Willowwind bow | Archery 25 | 17 ranged attack | 1,200 GC | 8 × Willow logs 1 × Steel bar |
| Maplecrest bow | Archery 40 | 23 ranged attack | 3,000 GC | 8 × Maple logs 3 × Steel bar |
| Yewthorn bow | Archery 60 | 30 ranged attack | 9,000 GC | 12 × Yew logs 2 × Silver bar |
| Sunheart bow | Archery 80 | 38 ranged attack | 24,000 GC | 20 × Yew logs 4 × Gold bar |
Keep arrows equipped as well as a bow. Bronze arrows last two shots each; stronger arrow tiers last longer. A better bow increases attack strength but does not replace ammunition. Carry food and keep a backup weapon available for a long expedition.
Staffs for a growing magician
Equip a staff to boost the damage of your offensive spells. A staff does not automatically cast spells: ordinary attacks with it are melee attacks. Choose a spell to cast using your spell controls.
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways for more details.
| Weapon | Required skill | Power | Buy | Crafting materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emberwood staff | Magic 1 | +5% spell damage | 60 GC | 4 × Logs 1 × Copper ore |
| Dewglass staff | Magic 10 | +8% spell damage | 400 GC | 12 × Oak logs 2 × Iron bar |
| Briarheart staff | Magic 25 | +13% spell damage | 1,200 GC | 8 × Willow logs 1 × Steel bar |
| Duskglass staff | Magic 40 | +19% spell damage | 3,000 GC | 8 × Maple logs 3 × Steel bar |
| Frostprism staff | Magic 60 | +26% spell damage | 9,000 GC | 12 × Yew logs 2 × Silver bar |
| Sunweave staff | Magic 80 | +34% spell damage | 24,000 GC | 20 × Yew logs 4 × Gold bar |
The bonus applies to damaging single-target and area spells. It does not boost healing or reduce mana costs or spell cooldowns. A staff therefore gives you stronger spell damage without removing the need to manage mana.
Reading a comparison
Ranged attack is a weapon statistic, not a promise of that much damage on every hit. Spell damage percentages modify the damaging spell you cast. Skill requirements are separate from character level: check Archery or Magic in Skills to see whether an upgrade is usable.
A two-handed upgrade may improve damage while lowering defence if it replaces a weapon and shield. The equipment comparison shows that trade-off before you equip it.
