How to start

Ask Old Henry about his eyebrows, once his hat is home: outside the temple at the north end of the square.

Click Old Henry to talk (or right-click and choose Talk-to; on a phone, long-press), then choose “What about your eyebrows?”. “New quest”, the game says: your Journal and your Field notes keep track of it from then on.

Once Hold On to Your Hats is done: the story waits for it.

What you need

• 3 × Pheasant feather, from the pheasants (level 2) of the Pheasant Meadow.
• A fire: one you light yourself (a tinderbox and a log) or any campfire; and then the evening fires, behind the smithy.

Step by step

1. Old Henry's eyebrows. Old Henry has never said what happened to his eyebrows. "Another time. Another hole. Another DRAGON." Once his hat is home, ask him about them, outside the temple at the north end of the square.
2. The Humming Stones. Forty summers ago young Henry found a dragon's egg among the Humming Stones, and the dragon that took his hat was Kettle, the one that hatched from it. A dragon lays where she hatched. Walk up the north road from the temple to the Humming Stones, where the road ends under the hill (they are on your map), and search the flat stone in the middle of the ring.
3. Kettle's egg. Under the flat stone, in a hollow of old ash, lay an egg the size of a loaf, speckled like a thrush's: Kettle's egg, cold as a pebble and humming very faintly. Take it down to Old Henry, outside the temple at the north end of the square.
4. A hat lined with feathers. Kettle's egg hatched in a hat, by the fire: "Tradition." Old Henry is keeping the egg warm under his coat, and has his third-best hat ready for it, but it wants lining with feathers, soft as a nest. Catch pheasants in the Pheasant Meadow, beside the Honeybrook road just west of town, for three tail feathers, and bring them to Old Henry.
5. By the fire. You carry Kettle's egg in Old Henry's third-best hat, lined with pheasant feathers. Set it by a fire, as Henry did: light one (right-click the logs in your bag and choose Light Logs) or find a campfire, then use the egg on it.
6. A tune without words. By the fire the egg warmed and hummed a slow little tune: the one Honeybrook's bees have hummed since Old Henry's hat came home. Henry was twelve, and only ever hummed it. Ask the Beekeeper in Honeybrook, west along the road: her bees learnt it from the hat.
7. The whole town round it. You have the words to the tune, in the Beekeeper's round hand, and a pot of honey for the hatchling. Kettle hatched with a whole household round her; this one should have the whole town. Take the egg to the evening fires, on the lake shore south-east of the square, behind the smithy, and use it on one of the fires.
8. Show Old Henry. The egg hatched as you sang: a dragonling, copper and whistling, who sneezed once and climbed onto your shoulder. Show Old Henry, outside the temple at the north end of the square.
