Quest 9 of 9 in the Journal · From Ali · Kingsrest, The Sun Gate
How to start
Ask Ali, in Kingsrest (the oasis village far to the west, at the edge of the deep desert), about the tombs of the kings.
Click Ali to talk (or right-click and choose Talk-to; on a phone, long-press), then choose “Tell me about the tombs of the kings.”. “New quest”, the game says: your Journal and your Field notes keep track of it from then on.
What you need
- The royal tomb through the Sun Gate: scarabs (level 32) in the gallery, mummies (level 46) in the burial chambers and a giant scorpion (level 58) in the east one.
- The Pharaoh (a level 95 boss) and the sand dragon (level 100) sleeping on the king’s gold below him. Go with friends: everyone who helps put the Pharaoh to rest is counted.
Step by step
- The last well. Ali keeps the last well before the tombs of the kings, in Kingsrest, the oasis village far to the west at the edge of the deep desert. His grandfather went down into a royal tomb and came back with one word. Ask Ali about the tombs when you are ready for them: they are deadly (Combat 60 and up, their king 95).
- Karim's map case. Ali's grandfather Karim went down into the royal tomb through the Sun Gate, out west of Kingsrest beyond Sunshade, and came back without his map case. Go down the steps, through the gallery where the scarabs swarm, into the west burial chamber (a mummy sleeps there), and search its stone coffins.
- Karim's last map. In a stone coffin, under old linen, lay a battered leather map case with KARIM burnt into its lid. Take it back to Ali, in Kingsrest.
- The king who wakes. Karim's last map shows the royal tomb down to its south hall, where the Pharaoh sleeps before his golden coffin; behind the coffin, steps going down, and one word: breathing. The Pharaoh wakes for anyone who comes near. Put him to rest (Combat 95: go with friends; step off the ground that lights up, and strike him while he chants).
- Steps going down. The Pharaoh is at rest. Behind his golden coffin the steps Karim drew go down into warm dark, and something below breathes. Climb down.
- Breathing. Under the Pharaoh's hall lies the Sand Vault, the king's gold heaped at its heart, and on it, breathing, a sand dragon (Combat 100). Ali asked for one coin of the king's gold, so that he knows it is true. Take one from the heap.
- One coin. You have one coin of the king's gold, broad as your palm: a king on one side, a coiled dragon on the other. Take it to Ali, in Kingsrest.
What you get
- Sun scarab
- 800 GC
- +1,500 experience

How it ends
Karim's last map was true: the Pharaoh is at rest, and you brought Ali a coin of the king's gold from under a sleeping dragon. His grandfather's scarab hangs at your neck.
