The wild lands over the sea

Four wild lands rise from the sea round the mainland, with no town or road: the strongest creatures yet, and the farther inland, the harder.

How to get there: Across the sea from the mainland’s coasts, each reached by boat: the Greywood Reach in the west, the Rimeback Heights in the north-east, the Drowned Fens in the south-west and the Redrock Barrens in the south-east. A signpost stands at every landing.

Their creatures are level 105 to 150, the weakest near the coasts and the strongest in the heart of each land. No bank, shop or road waits over the sea: bring food, a boat for the way back, and a way home (Townward, hemma).

The Greywood Reach

Old forest and deep fjords. Herds of Greywood stags (level 110) graze the glades near its coasts and leave you be unless you strike; fjord trolls (level 118) keep the fjords further in, and mossback giants (level 125) the old forest at its heart. Oaks, maples, yews and willows grow there, with mushrooms, herbs and truffles to forage.

The Rimeback Heights

Ice and wind. Rime wolves (level 130) hunt in packs on the ice near its coasts, glacier giants (level 140) walk the ice higher up, and at the very top, very seldom, a frost titan (level 150). Silver and coal break through the snow, and cloudberries grow in its sheltered corners.

The Drowned Fens

Black water, bog and mist. Mire hydras (level 105) keep the meres near its coasts, bog wraiths (level 110) the bogs deeper in, and marsh lurkers (level 112) the black channels at its heart. Willows, herbs and toadstools grow everywhere.

The Redrock Barrens

Dry grass, red mesas and a hard sun. Dune stalkers (level 120) run their prey down in the grass and sand near its coasts, Redrock scorpions (level 128) keep the red mesas further in, and ironhorn beetles (level 135) the badlands at its heart. Iron and gold lie about, with date palms and guava bushes here and there.

Some of their creatures carry something for your home: a Greywood stag’s antlers, a bog wraith’s lantern, a dune stalker’s pelt and a frost titan’s heart. Trade them, or build them into a trophy, a lantern post or a rug; none gives a combat bonus.

East of Pinehame, a fifth rises from the sea: Dragonspire Isle, the dragons’ volcano. Beyond them all, at the world’s edge, a fog bank stands over a rough sea, and the current turns every boat back.
