Caves

Cave mouths all over the world go down into the dark: the deeper, the more dangerous, and the far caves go deeper still.

A yeti in a frozen cave, with daylight falling down the ladder behind it

How to get there: All over the world beyond the town; the dangerous ones have a sign at the mouth.

A cave’s sign says what lives below: in an ordinary cave, cave rats (level 18) and small spiders; in a dangerous one, cave trolls (level 30); in a very dangerous one, tarantulas (level 40). Caves connect through more than one entrance, and some go down to deeper chambers: Branching galleries (creatures of Combat 30), Deep chambers (creatures of Combat 32–40, and a Skeleton King (Combat 60) on his throne) and The far hollow (creatures of Combat 45–50), and harder still under the harder caves.

It is dark down there: say spark (Flash, Magic 4) and in a cave your light becomes Lykta, a lantern that burns until you climb out. Mind your way back to the ladder.

The far caves

  • The Mosslight Ways, east and south-east beyond the home island: three openings (Mosslight Mine, Shalestep Shaft and Fernfall Hollow) linked underground. Follow the lamps to another way out, or go down to stronger creatures and valuable ore.
  • Mosscradle Grotto, far to the west: a signed cave where baby moss dragons (level 46) guard their nests.
  • Cinderling Hollow, far to the east: a signed cave where baby ember dragons (level 56) guard their nests.
  • The frozen cave by Frostwatch: cave yetis (level 60).
  • Mossmaw, Emberdeep and Nightmaw: the green, red and black dragons each live at the bottom of a cave of their own (the dragons’ lairs).
