Better armour reduces damage, but heavy blows can still hurt. Armour is a protection rating, not a fixed amount subtracted from every hit. Spells use their own protection rules.

How to get it
- At an anvil, Smithing 78: 1 × Gold bar, 1 × Reinforced gold helmet → 1 × Reinforced gold full helm (base yield, before skill bonuses). 112 Smithing XP per completed recipe at the current game rate, before late-level reductions.
Sell: 1688 GC at the Smithy or Kitchen; 1350 GC at the General store. Buying and selling prices differ.
