Better armour reduces damage, but heavy blows can still hurt. Armour is a protection rating, not a fixed amount subtracted from every hit. Spells use their own protection rules.
Optional salvage: permanently consume 4 identical pieces from your bag beside an anvil with a hammer to recover 1 × Iron bar. No XP. Preview and salvage rules.
How to get it
- At an anvil, Smithing 27: 1 × Iron bar, 1 × Gold-plated iron helmet → 1 × Gold-plated iron full helm (base yield, before skill bonuses). 17.5 Smithing XP per completed recipe at the current game rate, before late-level reductions.
Sell: 68 GC at the Smithy (work of the anvil); 57 GC at the Kitchen; 45 GC at the General store. Buying and selling prices differ.
