If you fall: death and your backpack

What you keep, what you drop, how much experience a death costs, and how to get your backpack back.

You wake at the temple, at the north end of the town square, with your health and mana full. A recap, Back at the temple, names what killed you and shows the experience you lost.

What you keep

  • Your levels and your skills: skill experience is never lost.
  • Everything you wear: armour, weapon, shield, amulet and arrows.
  • Your tool belt (a place each for 8 kinds of tool) and your pet pouch.
  • Your bank, and your storage chest’s store.
  • In your bag, the starter tools (tinderbox, hammer and small fishing net) and whatever a story has given you to carry on its way (Old Henry's hat, First Try's bell, the Cook's stew pot, Kettle's egg and the rest) never drop.

What you lose

Experience: up to a tenth of your character experience, but never a level: the loss stops at the start of the level you have, so just after a level-up you lose little or nothing.

Your bag: everything else in it drops in a backpack where you fell.

Getting your backpack back

  1. Choose Recover backpack (the chip shows how long is left) for the list of what it holds, the countdown and, in a cave, the entrance and the depth.
  2. Walk back to the gold marker where you fell, and take your things. The list updates as you collect them.

The backpack is yours alone for 30 minutes. It survives signing out and server updates, and the timer does not start again when you reconnect. Fell at sea? It lies on the nearest ground you can walk on, and your boat is moored by the shore.

Ground is not storage: bank what you do not need on an expedition. In the PvP region the same rules apply.
